Squirming in my chair, I look to the window, which always calms me down.
Since I'm small, I can't see the ground even if I stand.
A field of treetops stretches as far as
the eye can see.
I take a breath,
and imagine myself springing from the windowsill,
flying out and above the house, dancing on the treetops,
swinging from the clouds to launch myself so far away, so fast away from here...
I hear piano music from the back room,
and I wonder if my brother ever looks out this window.
He's so tall I don't think he can see the treetops, even seated,
only the ground.

somber eyes, weak armsreach out to injured animals
that scream, flee.
Climbing trees and turning them black in Pain.
Welcoming the village mob,water replacing pitchforks.
somber eyes close, weak arms lower
silently praying to never be reborn.
